EASTERN ALLIANCE
Berlin 2004

Group exhibition curated by Ivan Mečl. I had for my disposal the exterior of two last floors of a tower building in Berlin. It was difficult to make out a sign which would match there. Finally I stuck white paper letters inside the windows. The sign was removed after two days on insistence of the building’s owner.

Statement by Ivan Vosecký on the Phrase, “Kill Them All.”

When I wrote that epigraph, it occurred to me that I’d have to defend it. The text is considered universally, not saying who, for whom or why. It is against violence and killing, period. For me, it has the same significance as “make peace, not war,” but it hasn’t been exhausted and it gives rise to questions and doubts relevant in this schizophrenic era. That is its strength. I don’t understand how anyone could can take the statement to heart. Apparently these are people who feel responsible for killing. In Bohemia, we have an appropriate proverb: “the guilty goose cries the most.” I used English because it is an international language, I don’t speak German and you probably wouldn’t understand Czech. If someone has been hurt, then I apologize, but it wasn’t me. As Buddha said, : “events happen, deeds are done, but there is no individual doer thereof.”
With warm greetings of peace,
Yours, Ivan
